Types of Gnosis
Gnosis of Allah (Marifa) is of two types; gnosis (Marifa) of the Divine attributes and gnosis (Marifa) of the Divine Essence.
· Gnosis of the Divine Attributes
It is associated with the realm of creation and slavehood. This includes to win over mankind by limited spiritual charm. It is to lose one’s spiritual purpose by wrongly accepting problem solving ability as final destination. This is gained by excessive recital rounds and solitude, meditational exercises, special devotional struggles performed physically etc. The final level of gnosis of Divine attributes is reading the Guarded Tablet and communicating with Allah at the Lote tree (Sidrah tal-Muntaha, the tree that marks the end of the seventh heaven, the boundary where no creation can pass). The knower having the gnosis of Divine attributes, is a man of mystic struggles and possessor of ranks but is deprived of the Divine vision and union.
· Gnosis of the Divine Essence
It is associated with the realm of non-creation and Lordship. It includes absorption in Divinity and the vision of Allah. The gnosis of the Divine Essence is possible only through the contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. Its initial stage is the Divine vision and permanent presence in the Mohammadan Assembly.
