Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s love and reverence for Ghaus-e-Azam

Allah created all realms and worlds for His beloved Prophet Mohammad and adorned them with His special Saints. They love Allah so much that their prayers, sacrifices, life and death rather every breath is for Allah. These Saints and their lives are so pure that Allah makes them an example for other people. Common people, because of devotion towards them, act upon their teachings, adopt their way of living and try to mould their lives according to them. It is a special reward from Allah that He preserves their lives for the guidance of other people.

As people come to know about the lives of these Saints, they because of regard and love not only develop a spiritual relation with them but also hidden secrets of their lives are revealed upon them gradually. All the Saints were together in the pre-existence as pure souls, in the same way they are connected with each other inwardly in the physical world.

Beneficence of Ghaus-ul-Azam

Ghaus-ul-Azam is the leader of all the Saints and is beneficent for everyone. He starts training the Saints even before their manifestation in the world and blesses them with his compassion at every moment of their life. The relation of Saints with him never ever breaks.

The inward relationship of Ghaus-e-Azam with Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman is so strong that he spent all his life at his footsteps. The inward training of Ghaus-ul-Azam elevated Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen to the highest levels of spiritualism, then he took revolutionary steps to revive the Mohammadan religion as were taken by Ghaus-ul-Azam. On these bases he got the title of Shabeeh-e-Ghaus-e-Azam from the Mohammadan Assembly.

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s mother had great love and regard for the Holy Prophet, the People of Cloak and Ghaus-ul-Azam. She used to hold gatherings regularly for the People of Cloak and celebrated 11th of every Islamic month in remembrance of Ghaus-ul-Azam. That’s the reason Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s mother had a great influence on his nature, life and personality. Her mother says that when she was bearing Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen, unusually her desire was to continuously recite encomiums in the honour of Ghaus-e-Azam.

Visit of a Dervish

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s mother relates that a Dervish often visited her house every couple of months. Once he came after the birth of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen. She showed him the new born and asked to pray for him. At the moment, that spiritually absorbed Dervish was sitting on the ground. As soon as his sight caught the light of the baby’s forehead, he suddenly stood up. He kissed its forehead and told her, “Sister keep the baby’s forehead covered. If the devils read it, they would exacerbate you and try to create problems for you. However, they would not be able to do any harm to the baby.  Despite their lame efforts, he will definitely achieve his destination. Unfortunately, you won’t live long enough to see his wealth or spiritual heights.”

Same Dervish again visited the house of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s mother and predicted about him,

“This son of yours is very fortunate. Allah has inscribed his forehead with a special destiny. Ghaus-ul-Azam will spiritually train him in a special way under his own supervision. Undoubtedly, he will pass him through all the stages of life.”

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s mother reveals that one night she saw Ghaus-ul-Azam in her dream. Ghaus-ul-Azam said about Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen,

“He is mine. He is my reflection. I would inquire you about him.”

From all these traditions we come to know that Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s inward relation with Ghaus-ul-Azam is eternal. That is why when his inward journey started, first of all Ghaus-ul-Azam trained him.

It was the night of 12th April 1997, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen had finished offering Tahjjud (late night) prayer. Now he was reciting Durood (sending peace and blessings upon the Holy Prophet). Suddenly, his spiritual self enlightened and he found himself in the grandest assembly, the Mohammadan Assembly. There Prophet Mohammad took oath of allegiance from him in the presence of his Companions. Afterwards he handed him over to Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani and said to him, “You have his spiritual legacy, he is our darling daughter’s spiritual son. Now he is our spiritual son too. I have entrusted him to you for spiritual guidance”.

Afterwards Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen kissed the feet of the People of Cloak present there and also those of the four Rashidun Caliph. Everyone congratulated him and caressed his head. Later, having permission of the Holy Prophet and Ghaus-ul-Azam he came back from the Mohammadan Assembly. From there onwards Ghaus-ul-Azam started his spiritual training.

Ghaus-ul-Azam himself trains the true SarwariQadri seeker

It is a truth that Ghaus-ul-Azam himself trains the true Sarwari Qadri seeker. As Sultan Bahoo says:

  • Some Sarwari Qadris have such elite status that Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) directly blesses them with his kind benevolence. After that he assigns them to Ghaus-ul-Azam. And he blesses them in such a way that they do not apart from him even for a single moment. (Mehak-ul-Faqr Kalan)

Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali further explains:

  • Sarwari means to take oath of allegiance at the hand of Sarwar, and the Holy Prophet is the Sarwar (meaning ‘the leader’) of the universe. More so, Qadri means follower of Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. Hence, such is the exalted status of a Sarwari Qadri. (The Spiritual Guides of Sarwari Qadri Order).

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s Spiritual training by Ghaus-ul-Azam

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman

After this spiritual experience, Ghaus-ul-Azam started the spiritual training of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen and enriched him with his benevolence. First of all, he granted him the knowledge of all the beautiful attributive names of Allah. Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen recited every beautiful name of Allah lakhs of times.

Afterwards, Ghaus-ul-Azam blessed him with the invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat (the personal name of Allah). Hence, he invoked and contemplated Ism-e-Allah Zaat every night regularly. Describing this experience, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen says that the longing for Ism-e-Allah Zaat increased in him with every passing day.

Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani also blessed him with ilm-e-dawat (the knowledge of communicating with the souls of shrines)

Search for the living Spiritual Guide

After his preliminary spiritual training Ghaus-ul-Azam ordered Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen to search for a living spiritual guide. For this purpose, he visited different places and met a lot of guides. Not only he travelled within Lahore but also went outside Lahore. Wherever he would hear about a spiritual guide, he attended his gathering but his heart did not feel inclined towards him. Ghaus-ul-Azam guided him in this search as well and led him to the destination.

One night when he had got extremely tired of the search, his condition became so restless that he started sobbing. He pleaded in front of Allah, “Please Allah show me my destination now. If I could not meet my destination for a few more weeks, I would retreat to my previous life style. As it is your word that you do not test anyone beyond his courage.”

Ghaus-ul-Azam came in his dream

Later, he slept crying on the prayer mat. Indeed, it was nothing less than a blessing that he saw Ghaus-ul-Azam in his dream. He comforted him and said,

“The Holy Prophet has assigned me your responsibility. Surely, I would not let you part from me”. Then he ordered, “I have handed you over to Sultan Bahoo. Now your spiritual guide will finish the last part of your training. Just visit the shrine of Sultan Bahoo”. After that Ghaus-ul-Azam put his hand on his chest. When he woke up, he felt peace and was composed enough. A few days later, Ghaus-ul-Azam blessed him and he reached at the court of Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali.

Efforts done after oath of allegiance

After taking oath of allegiance Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen became the beloved of Sultan Mohammad Asghar Ali. He kept on achieving the higher levels of belovedness and today he adorns the throne of Divine guidance and persuasion. Now he guides the seekers of Allah on the path of Faqr, sanctifies their innerself, trains them and elevates them spiritually.

The greatest wish of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen has been that Allah may grant him the honour to serve His religion Islam. Just like He granted this honour to Ghaus-ul-Azam Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani. As he revived the religion and saved it from further deterioration in his age. Thus, to fulfil this wish, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen worked hard day and night.

Moreover, he took revolutionary steps to spread the real soul of Islam i.e. Faqr in the world. For this purpose, he used every possible medium of preaching like religious gatherings, speeches and lectures and social media. He also did literary work such as monthly magazine, books, websites, translations and exegesis of the books of earlier Saints. Additionally, he took preaching tours all around the country, recorded audios and videos so on and so forth. The way he made the teachings and life of Ghaus-ul-Azam and Sultan Bahoo common among masses through all kinds of media is unprecedented.

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen has written a very comprehensive book on the grandeur of Ghaus-ul-Azam named as Hayat-o-Taleemat Sayyidna Ghaus-ul-Azam (The life and teachings of Ghaus-ul-Azam) which is the evidence of his love and reverence for Ghaus-ul-Azam. In its dedication he appeals in the court of Ghaus-ul-Azam: “With uttermost humility, dedication, love and regard this humble sinner submits this attempt in the exalted court of the Divine beloved, the leader of Saints Ghaus-ul-Azam with an appeal that he may approve it and bless his slave with his mercy, favour and bounty till the end of time. May he include me in his lovers since I know that only through his slavery one can achieve the height of Faqr and reach the court of Allah and Prophet Mohammad.”

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s life follows the life pattern of al- Ghaus-ul-Azam

Undoubtedly, the life pattern of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen also resembles to a great extent with that of Ghaus-ul-Azam. As his life is also full of struggle like the life of Ghaus-ul-Azam. Following are some of his life similarities with Ghaus-ul-Azam:

  • The spiritual experiences of his mother when she was bearing him.
  • His attractive and illuminating existence since birth, predictions of Saint about him during his childhood.
  • Working hard to earn livelihood since young age due to poverty.
  • Being favourite of the teachers due to extraordinary intelligence.
  • Starting mystic struggle to find the Truth in early age.
  • Becoming spiritually attached with Ghaus-ul-Azam first of all during the mystic struggle.
  • Moreover, gaining the invocation of beautiful names of Allah as well as the inspirational knowledge from him
  • Searched for the spiritual guide on the order of Ghaus-ul-Azam
  • Spent very short period in the company of spiritual guide (only five years)
  • The struggle to revive and reform Islam after adorning the throne of Divine guidance and persuasion.
  • Also, faced the same materialism, sectarianism and religious deterioration that existed in the age of Ghaus-ul-Azam.
  • Last but not the least, his struggle to end the aforementioned evils.

In short, the entire pattern of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s life follows the pattern of Ghaus-ul-Azam’s life. Even his inward and spiritual endeavour is extremely arduous and similar to him. Regarding this, he states;

 “If a mountain had to face the trails which I went through then it would have been crushed into particles.”

Spiritual Observation of a Disciple

In the aforementioned context, a spiritual observation of one of his female disciples Anila Yasin is worth mentioning, she tells;

One day I recited dawatand got the presence of the Mohammadan Assembly spiritually. There, I observed with my open eyes that Ghaus-ul-Azam has blessed me with his presence. Then he said about our spiritual guide Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman; “He is priceless. Certainly, world is not aware of his spiritual status and level.”  Further, he added, “He is me and I am he. Whoever will follow him, will indeed be blessed with success.”

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen is the Reviver of the Era

As stated in the following Hadith;

·         عن ابو ہریرہ عن رسول اللّٰہ صلی اللّٰہ علیہ وآلہٖ وسلم اِنَّ اللّٰہَ یَبْعَثُ لِھٰذِہِ الْاُمَّۃِ عَلٰی رَأسِ کُلِّ مِائَۃِ سَنَۃٍ مَنْ یُجَدِدْ لَھَا دِیْنَھَا

Meaning: Abu Huraira reported that the Holy Prophet said; “Surely Allah would raise up a person in this nation at the advent of every century who shall revive its religion for it.” (Sunan Abu Dawud, Hadith#4291)

Ghaus-ul-Azam was the reviver of Islam of his era. He was born in 470 Hijri i.e. 1078 A.D. Later, in 521 Hijri (1128 A.D.) he acceded to the throne of Divine guidance and persuasion. Then, he appeared as the reviver and reformer of religion. It was the start of century according to Islamic calendar as well as the Gregorian calendar. Similarly, Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman acceded to the throne of Divine guidance and persuasion in December 2003 A.D. (1424 Hijri). So, it was the start of century according to the Islamic calendar as well as the Gregorian calendar. Ghaus-ul-Azam appeared as the reviver and reformer of Islam at the advent of second millennium. While his reflection Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman has appeared as the reviver and reformer of Islam at the advent of third millennium.

Grandeur of Ghaus-ul-Azam per Sultan Bahoo

Sultan Bahoo describes the grandeur of Ghaus-e-Azam in the following words;

During his life, Ghaus-ul-Azam the beloved of Allah, had been granting spiritual beneficence. He granted Divine benedictions to his five thousand disciples and seekers every day. Thus, elevating them to the level of immortal Mystic after purifying from infidelity and disbelief. Moreover, he blessed three thousand among them with the Divine presence. Hence, drowning them in the observation of Oneness of الَّا اللّٰہ ‘None but Allah’. Such that these three thousand seekers reached the level of اِذَا تَمَّ الْفَقْرُ فَھُوَ اللّٰہ .This is the level of; ‘When Faqr is accomplished that is Allah’. Besides, he blessed the remaining two thousand with the presence of the Mohammadan Assembly.

Indeed, only Sarwari Qadri way has this kind of spiritual beneficence. As in this way the perfect spiritual guide blesses the seeker with the Divine presence by his spiritual attention. Moreover, he grants the invocation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and shahada. As mentioned before, only Sarwari Qadri way has such passion, generosity, contemplation and authority. Additionally, the Sarwari Qadri spiritual guides transfer it from one (spiritual heir) to another. In this manner, it will never stop until the doomsday. In short, it is like the brightest sun which benefits and enlightens the whole world. (Kaleed-ul-Tauheed Kalan)

Sarwari Qadri order and Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen

The Sarwari Qadri spiritual way of Divine presence approached Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen transferring from one Sarwari Qadri spiritual guide to another. Then, he also blessed, and is still blessing, thousands of his disciples with the Divine love. Thus, eliminating the love of world from their inward and elevating them to the highest spiritual stations of Divine vision. Moreover, he has granted seekers with the presence of the Mohammadan Assembly after inward purgation following the footsteps of al-Ghawth al-Azam.

This is the materialistic age where one hardly finds the true seekers of Allah. However, Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman converted thousands of seekers of the world and hereafter to the seekers of Allah. He did so just by his effective spiritual glance and the benediction of invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat. Like Ghaus-ul-Azam, he also vivifies the soul and gives it the power to converse with Allah. However, the only condition is that the seeker should be true, not a hypocrite, liar or deceitful. Indeed, it is not less than a miracle in this age. In short, Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman is blessed with the title of Shabeeh-e-Ghaus-e-Azam also because of his such miraculous powers.

Final words

Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen is the source of tranquillity for restless souls and the hearts in pain. His words penetrate the inwards of his lovers and soothe them.
