What is Islam ?
For Muslim umma, it is indeed a great blessing that Allah has chosen them for the religion of Islam. But the question arises: do we truly understand Islam in its essence? Have we aligned our lives according to its teachings? Are we following the path shown by Allah and His last Messenger, Prophet Mohammad (pbuh)? If we are not aware of the true meaning of Islam, then surely we will also be negligent in implementing it in our lives. Is Islam merely about performing the five daily prayers, fasting for a month every year, or occasionally giving charity? If Islam was all about these actions then our society should be an exemplary society because apparently we do these things well. However, despite performing all these acts, our inner desire for wealth and power is not diminishing, nor are spiritual illnesses such as backbiting, envy, lying, deceit, deception, hatred, and selfishness decreasing. Rather, the self is becoming even stronger. Despite all acts of worship, the soul remains trapped in the net of the self, unable to soar towards closeness to the Divine Essence. The effect of Islam is not being reflected on our bodies let alone the soul. Therefore, Allah has commanded to completely enter (follow) Islam in Quran.
Allah says:
O believers! Enter Islam perfectly and wholly. (2: 208)
Entering fully into Islam means to apply the teachings of Islam completely both on the body and
soul. This should lead to a spiritual connection with Allah.
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman says:
Man Strives for Sustenance that has been set
Now a days man spends his days and night in pursuit of sustenance, yet he does not rely on the Provider (Allah Almighty). While acknowledging Allah’s presence, the man becomes heedless of his beliefs and faith when committing sins. He becomes so blinded in fulfilling the desires of the self that he becomes heedless of death and the hereafter.
Islam is not merely the name of worship. Its greatest example is present among us in the form of the Sunna for the Holy Prophet (pbuh). After his proclamation of prophethood, the Holy Prophet did not command new Muslims to perform worship, rather, his complete focus was on their moral and spiritual upbringing. Hence, he not only preached Oneness of Allah and fulfilling the requirements of His servitude but also continuously emphasised good ethics. He continued to enlighten Muslims about moral evils, purified their inwards through his pure companionship, inculcated them to establish a relationship with Allah, and enlightened their inwards with his love.
Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) Gradually Trained the Companions
The Holy Prophet declared his love as a sign of perfect faith, it is clear from the following Hadith:
None of you can become a true believer until I am more beloved to him than his parents, his children, and all the people.
(Sahih Bukhari 15)
The Holy Prophet said regarding Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA):
The true foundation of the religion of Islam is sincere love, devotion, loyalty, and complete outward and inward obedience to Allah Almighty and His beloved Prophet. However, nowadays, all attention is focused solely on outward obedience. If religion was based only on outward actions, the earliest Companions would have been commanded to accept Islam and perform prayers, fasting, zakat, etc. immediately, but we observe that the obligation of all practical pillars of religion came after the migration (to Madina). Before that, for all Companions, religion was only fidelity and love for the Holy Prophet. Seeing the Holy Prophet was their prayer and worship. Their fasting was patience on the hardships imposed by the polytheists of Makkah.

A Spiritual Guide is Needed to Succeed
The so-called Muslims of the present era consider only the study of Quran and Hadith sufficient. They deny the importance of a teacher, a spiritual guide. If merely studying books was enough, then why did Allah Almighty continued the lineage of prophets. And after Prophet Mohammad, the series of Saints? Thus, it becomes clear that alongside teaching and learning, spiritual companionship for the purification of the self is also extremely necessary.
A person once came to the Holy Prophet and asked, “O Messenger of Allah, when will the Day of Judgment come?” The Holy Prophet replied, “What preparation have you made for it? “The man replied, ” I have not performed many prayers, nor observed many fasts, nor have I given much charity, but I love Allah and His Messenger. ” The Holy Prophet said, ” You will be with whom you love.” (Sahih Bukhari 6171)
Abundance of worship and asceticism alone does not guarantee salvation and success. Now, we need to evaluate whether we are living our lives according to the ways taught by the Holy Prophet. Are we following the footsteps of the favored men of Allah? Are we aware of the need for purification of the self, or are we ignorant of it altogether? Do we love Allah and His Messenger? Are we true Muslims? We often complain at the slightest inconvenience and start complaining to Allah.
If we compare ourselves to the noble Companions or those favored by Allah, we simply absolve ourselves by saying that they were the Companions. Perhaps we have forgotten that the Holy Prophet instructed, that is obligatory upon you to follow my way and the Rashidun Caliphs.” (Musnad Ahmad 17275)
We Must Follow the Sunna and the Companions
It is imperative upon us to walk on the path shown by the Holy Prophet and the noble Companions.
If we fail to do so, how will we prepare for the hereafter? With what face will we present ourselves before Allah? At that time, every part of the body will bear witness to a person’s actions, as Allah Almighty
has said:
Today We shall seal their mouths, and their hands will speak to Us, and their feet will bear witness to the deeds which they used to earn. (36: 65)
Every page of the record of deeds will testify to a person’s good and bad deeds. Will there be another chance for us then? Certainly not. We often deny the need for the company of Saints and the pious. We are unaware of the importance of self purgation. In the present era, those who walk the path of Sufism are labelled as heretics and infidels. However, it is through the company of perfect spiritual guide that one reaches the Mohammadan Assembly. Without reaching the Holy Prophet, faith is not complete and understanding of religion cannot be attained.
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman states:
Religion is not understood until the one whose religion it is explains it. (Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen)
Purgation of the Self
Respected readers! There is still time. If you want to become a true Muslim, you must go through the stage of purgation of the self so that you can attain salvation from all moral evils, and also, you may achieve the gnosis and vision of Allah. Being connected to a living spiritual guide is indispensable for purgation of the self.
In the present era, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman is spreading the Mohammadan Faqr which is the essence and inner aspect of Islam. Through this, a Muslim completely enters Islam. Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen is also nurturing the Divine seekers according to the same principles on which the Holy Prophet trained the noble Companions and made them a role model for all time. He made them true believers and Muslims and their every action reflected the essence of Islam.
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen is the epitome of Holy Prophet’s Sunna. He never objected to anyone actions or habits like the ordinary scholars do, nor did he ever point out anyone faults. Instead, his gaze is upon the fervour and quest of the seeker with which he walks on the path of Faqr. Gradually, through his luminous company, he delivers the seeker from the flaws of the self, instilling in him the ability to distinguish between truth and falsehood, bestowing upon him the awareness of right and wrong. This is a clear indication of him being a perfect spiritual guide and a man of insight.
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Trains Each Disciple Individually
He nurtures the seeker while considering his virtues and temperament, rather than measuring everyone with the same yardstick. His influence and eloquent speech imbue the true essence of Quran and Hadith in the inward of the seeker. His discourse is always adorned with the verses of Quran, Hadith, and the quotes of the perfect saints, which is a clear proof of his deep understanding and knowledge. Simply reading the translation of Quran and Hadith does not reveal the secrets to the seeker that are unveiled during the conversation with Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen to the seeker’s inward. He interprets Quran according to the exact requirements of the present era. In the company of Sultan-ul Ashiqeen, the seeker forgets worldly distractions and tumult, just as the Companions of the Holy Prophet used to do.:
Incident of Hanzala Ibn Abi Amir (RA)
Hanzala Ibn Abi Amir (RA) stated that he was present with Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA) in the court of the Holy Prophet, and he said, “O Messenger of Allah! Hanzala has become a hypocrite.
“The Messenger of Allah asked, “How so?” He replied, O Messenger of Allah! When we are in your presence, you remind us of Paradise and Hellfire, and it is as if we are seeing them with our own eyes. But when we leave your company and go back to our families and businesses, we become preoccupied and forget everything. “The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said three times, “By the One in Whose hand is my soul, if your state remains the same as it is in my presence and in my gathering, and if you continue in the same state as you are with me, then angels would shake hands with you in your beds and on your paths. But, O Hanzala, this condition comes only occasionally.
” (Meaning, this state is only achievable in my company and under my gaze.) (Sahih Muslim 6966)

Allama Iqbal said:
Din mujaw andar kutub, ae bekhbar
Ilm o hikmat az kutub dein az nazar
Explanation: O ignorant one, do not seek religion in books, for knowledge and wisdom are attained from books but religion through gaze (of Saints).
May Allah grant us the blessing of benefiting from the company of the perfect spiritual guides (Fuqara-e-Kamileen) and enable us to enter Islam completely. Ameen.
The basic belief of Islam is encapsulated in the concept of Tawheed, which asserts the absolute Oneness of Allah. This means that Muslims believe in the existence of one God, who is the creator, sustainer, and ruler of the universe. Tawheed emphasises the uniqueness, incomparability, and indivisibility of Allah. Alongside Tawheed, Muslims also believe in the prophethood of Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) as the final Messenger of Allah. Additionally, Muslims believe in
Quran as the word of Allah revealed to Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) and in the Day of Judgment, where individuals will be held accountable for their deeds. These beliefs constitute the core tenets of Islam.
