Self-Accountability
Betterment of Personality
- It is a common observation that the plant that is best cared for always becomes a strong and fruitful tree. It is protected from weeds and devastations of weather conditions.
- Similarly a human being attains the status of best creation in society when he becomes free from the evils created by the self, Satan and the world, and the destructive psychological diseases such as envy, greed, malice, lies etc. This is possible through self-accountability.
- My perfect spiritual guide Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman defines “human” as:
- For improvement of personality it is important for man to practice self-accountability and use every moment and breath in making his heart closer to Allah.
- Self-accountability makes human nature positive, frees the thoughts from divisive ideology, eradicates the contradictions of knowledge and practice and above all, opens the path of Divine gnosis and closeness. Instead of paying attention to his reformation and training, man is spending all his abilities in selfish and satanic works such as criticism and fault-finding.
Accountability
Shamsuddin Azeemi writes in his book “Tajalliyat”:
Accountability is a process that purifies a person from all impurities.
- Accountability is to hold yourself responsible for your own deeds and a self-reflection. Self-accountability has key importance in Islam. It is the duty of everyone in the Mohammadan umma to reflect and explore their self and be constantly engaged in getting rid of habits that are undesirable in shariah. Upon performing good deeds, they should humbly praise Allah and thank Him instead of being arrogant. And when they find spiritual illnesses in their self, they should adopt repentance. Because in the beginning, morals of self are bad. Accountability of the self and purifying it from the filth of shirk is the means to eternal success.
- As Allah says in the Holy Quran:
Indeed, only he who is purified (from the afflictions of his ill-commanding self) will triumph. (87:14)
Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb said:
- Make yourself accountable before the reckoning begins, weigh yourself before you’re weighed and be ready for the big trial.
Remember! Only a self-accountable person can improve his personality according to Allah’s will. This is because such a person is constantly searching for flaws in his nature and striving to remove them. And constantly striving for Allah is a great happiness and blessing. So self-accountability leads to avoiding sins, getting the opportunity to repent, purifying the heart from all things other than Allah and Divine gnosis.
Bayazid Bastami and the Greatest name of Allah
It is related that once upon a time a man came to Bayazid Bastami and said “Tell me the greatest name of Allah. I have heard that whoever possesses it, has authority over everything. It is worth knowing what is the greatest name of Allah.” Bayazid Bastami replied “The greatest name of Allah does not have a specific limit. No doubt emptying your esoteric self from everything for Divine Oneness is the greatest name of Allah. When you achieve this, you can travel everywhere with any name you want.” So when one empties the esoteric self from everything other than Allah, every name becomes the greatest name of Allah. (Qalbi Hayat-o-Mamat)
The inward is an instrument for revelation of the Divine light within oneself but also a center for satanic temptations. It becomes a center for satanic temptations only when man turns away from invocation and obedience of Allah. The aforementioned becomes careless and unconcerned about state of his self. This carelessness and negligence of man is the weapon of Satan which he uses. At first Satan lures such heedless person into trickery and scheming and when he is completely under control, Satan induces him to adopt the path of misguidance. Consequently, one after the other, the unceasing chain of disobedience to Allah kicks off.
How Satan takes control over the inward?
My perfect spiritual guide and leader of humanity Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen writes in his book “Sufism-the Soul of Islam”:
There are two doors of inward, upper door is connected to the body and lower door is connected to the soul. Satan sits on these two doors making a web like a spider and whispers in the inward. Satanic whisperer is like a python which has poisoned spikes on its tail. Through these spikes he puts venomous thoughts in the inward and darkens it. (Sufism-the Soul of Islam)
Abu Sa’id al-Kharraz says:
- Be aware! The matter of inward is the individual renewal of the mind, i.e. improving its state, and it is observing this state without regard for time and present while sincerely guarding it all the time (so that this renewal process continues). (Qalbi Hayat-o-Mamat)
That is, in matters of the heart, renewal and improvement are necessary at all times. It should never happen that after doing good once, the inward state gets neglected thinking that now my inward is completely correct and I don’t need accountability. An attribute of a believer is that he is accountable for his self, thoughts and actions every moment. And he humbly keeps turning to Allah in every situation and never despairs of His mercy. Among the fruits of self-accountability, the most important fruit is that a person gets to know his own self.
Hadiths:
- Whoever recognizes his self, undoubtedly, recognized his Lord.
It is related from Hazrat Umar that the Holy Prophet said:
- Reckoning on the Day of Judgment will be easy only for the person who has held his self accountable in the world.
Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen says:
- Self is a veil between Lord and Man
- Only the person who conquers the ever-changing tricks and temptations of the self reaches the destination of Divine union
- The real power of man is thought
Rumi says:
- Remember! Knowledge of the reality of self brings a person to Divine gnosis.
- Furthermore, the basis of inward reformation is the gradual accountability of thought, self and action. And only the accountability of these factors can create refinement in an individual’s personality. Thought inspires the self and the self is the perpetrator of action. Thought is the mentor that motivates the self to do all kinds of actions. Because thought is the beginning, its accountability is of utmost importance.
The main reason for not paying attention to self-accountability in the present era is following the outward aspect of Islam and overlooking the inward. The real misfortune of man is that he does not ponder upon himself.
Allah says:
And We are nearer to him than his jugular vein. (50:16)
- Indeed, the great misfortune of the Muslims is that they have thought the standard of success in their lives only to acquire the external knowledge of the Quran and Hadith and to attain Heaven and Houris. To achieve these, they turn to scholars who are ignorant of the truth. They, in order to understand and obtain correctness of their inward, purity of their soul and will of Allah, do not try to come in the court of a true believer, perfect spiritual guide, nor do they consider it necessary to beautify their inward. Remember! You get rewards for physical prayers but you cannot get the blessing of self-recognition, presence in the Mohammadan Assembly and Divine closeness or vision without the company and vision of perfect spiritual guide.
The Scholars
- The problem with scholars is that neither do they benefit from the company of Fakirs, nor do they consider it important to get their self purified. They also do not encourage their followers to do so. This is why despite being scholars of Quran, Hadith and Fiqh, and giving speeches for hours, they can not purify their followers’ inwards or give them inner peace. Rather they blind them inwardly and make them pursue Paradise, Houris and Castles. And what is Allah’s will? What is the purpose of man in this world? They do not let their followers reach these questions. On the contrary, Fakirs trust upon Allah. They are aware of the outward and inward aspects of religion and train their followers in the same way.
- The perfect spiritual guide instructs his followers to trust Allah, love Allah and to do everything for the pleasure of Allah in accordance with Sunna. He takes out his follower from the darkness of inward and gives new life to his thinking. Therefore, there is a difference between disciples of the perfect spiritual guide and that of scholars. The disciple of perfect spiritual guide is self-accountable every moment and considers it impossible to spend even a moment of his life without obeying the commands of Allah. And there is uniformity between his outward and inward.
The followers of scholars cannot continuously guard their inward. They try to keep their hearts straight and humble while performing obligatory prayers, but this condition is temporary and due to the pollution of inward diseases in the fulfillment of worldly affairs, they put aside the Divine orders for the attainment of the world again.
Inward
The purpose of this article is not to object to anyone, but to draw the attention of man towards his esoteric self and guide him towards inward reformation. Because the inward is reality, it has to receive punishment and reward, it has to be honored with Divine vision and closeness, and until it is reformed from the right place.
- How will it be able to absorb the theophanies of Divine light within itself?
Allah says:
And whoever remains blind (to the truth) in this (world) will be blind in the Hereafter as well, distracted from the path (of deliverance). (17:72)
Now the question arises that how is self-accountability possible in the right way in this selfish and materialistic age?
- Remember! True self-responsibility does not mean that a Muslim devotes all his attention and abilities to beautifying his appearance and is oblivious to the inward matters. In truth only that person attains Divine closeness whose inward has gone above and beyond all spiritual and physical filth through the company of perfect spiritual guide, and has turned towards Allah. This world is preparation for the hereafter. He will achieve in the hereafter what he strives for in this world. Whoever turns to Allah with sincerity of intention, then Allah Himself is his guardian. And He will definitely bring him to the court of his beloved perfect spiritual guide who is the leader of the nation.
Allah says:
Fear Allah persistently and keep looking for means to (approach and get closer to) Him. (5:35)
The Holy Prophet said:
- Seek good wishes from the Mystics as they bear hunger and thirst (for the sake of Allah). Certainly, Allah keeps them under His kind attention and accepts their prayers. (Mohkim ul Fuqara)
He also said:
- One who wants the company of Allah must acquire the company of Mystics. (Mohkim ul Fuqara)
Perfect spiritual guide of the current era, emperor of Faqr, reviver of Islam is the sacred self of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen.
He is the 31st Shaikh of Sultan Bahoo’s Sarwari Qadri order, which reaches Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani through different Mystics and then from Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani, it chains to the leader of Faqr, Hazrat Ali and then to leader of both worlds, the Holy Prophet.
Following the Holy Prophet’s Sunnah, he trains Allah’s creation outwardly and inwardly according to the Holy Prophet’s sayings and actions with the order of Allah and the Holy Prophet.
Allah says:
O believers! Keep remembering Allah’s name (Ism-e-Allah) abundantly. (33:41)
The Holy Prophet says:
There is a burnisher for everything and the burnisher of inward is the invocation of Allah.
- Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen is the only person in the world who sets his devotees on the path to Divine closeness by granting them invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and the practice of inscribing Allah’s name on the body, on the first day of pledge of allegiance.
- In this materialistic age where struggle is limited only for pursuit of the outward, Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen is not only enriching the inwards of thousands of truth seekers with Divine love through the blessing of invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and his perfect sight but is also taking them to the spiritual levels of Divine vision and eternal presence in the Mohammadan Assembly by purifying their self. Eternalizing the dead inwards and establishing their connection with Allah are evidence of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen’s excellence over Faqr.
We invite all people to adopt accurate self-accountability through invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and company of Sultan-ul-Ashiqeen so that they gain success in religion and hereafter.
